Dried wedding flowers are a key trend at the moment, so at The Northern Flower Garden we took the opportunity of a recent photoshoot to try this out. There is an amazing new wedding venue in the heart of Northumberland about to be launched and we felt a dried flower look would work beautifully for this. It was such a lovely day with a really relaxed, rural countryside feel, a perfect venue for a wedding. 

Choosing the bridal flowers for this venue was the inspiration for this blog.

Why Choose Dried Flowers?

• The beauty of dried flowers are the many textures and shapes that they can bring to a floral design. Dried materials are very crisp by their very nature and come in all shapes and sizes.

• Dried flowers are often bleached in appearance with muted hues and these are great for the vintage and boho styled themes which are also very popular at the moment.

• Dried flowers are everlasting. They can be kept as a keepsake to remember your special  day or they can be gifted to family members. Likewise, if you already have a dried flower keepsake this too can be incorporated into your wedding flowers to keep that special person with you on the day.

• Dried flowers are sustainable. Not only is this an imporatant factor to consider but also another key trend for brides and grooms today.

• Dried flowers have an extended shelf life. They can be prepared in advance and you don’t need to worry about maintaining their freshness throughout the day. This can be a bit of a game changer for florists working on a busy wedding.

• Dried flowers are perfect for warmer climates as they don’t need to be kept hydrated and cool. It is one less worry in the organisation of your wedding and you can guarantee your flowers are going to be looking great all day long.

Combining Fresh and Dried Flowers

For our photoshoot we thought, why not expand on the textures of dried flowers by combining them with the soft, velvet petals of fresh flowers for contrast and a more bespoke finish? At The Northern Flower Garden we are always looking for ways to elevate our wedding flowers to give our customers the very best in design.

We also combined our dried materials of pampas grass, preserved eucalyptus, bunny tails and amaranthus with fresh muted pink roses in ‘Avalanche Pink’, vintage pink carnations in ‘Bliss’ and fresh eucalyptus to capture a vintage, boho vibe and we feel they all worked beautifully together.

Using Dried Flowers in Wedding Designs

Here are a couple of examples of how you can use dried flowers for your wedding day.

Dried flowers do not always have to be muted in colour, take a look at this all dried bridal bouquet. We love the way they have taken the purple and lilac dried limonium and combined it with the vibrant yellow dried craspedia. These perfect little pom poms lift the colours giving this bouquet a really fresh look.

Dried flowers are perfect for installations and the fact that they are everlasting make them great value for money as they can be used again after your event. We love this design by kokomodfloral which is suspended from the ceiling above the head table and is constructed of contorted willow, pampas grass and white cotton. Absolutely beautiful…

Dried flowers are perfect for flower crowns and alot more comfortable to wear being lighter in weight than fresh flowers. Here’s one we are currently working on for our Etsy Shop where we like to sell our dried designs. These can be bought well in advance and tucked away ready for the big day. So simple.
