Contemporary Wedding Flowers for the Bride who wants something a little bit Different…

Introduction

In my last blog I talked about the different styles of wedding bouquets trending in 2021 and the styles of bridal gowns they compliment.

But what about the bride who wants something, that little bit different. As a florist I like to look to my European neighbours for contemporary bridal designs as they really can take wedding flowers to another level. So, I did a Pinterest dive for the contemporary and the unusual in bridal flowers to give you some inspiration.

Flower Hoops

I love these floral hoops. Typically they are a bridesmaid’s choice but why not have them for the bride. They can be simple and elegant and I personally feel they look fabulous with a straight dress or a fishtail. They are light and easy to hold, often being held like a handbag.

Floral Orbs

You can create gorgeous shapes with the floral orb making it suitable for any style of dress. Flowers and foliage can still be combined and they are eye-catching in that they are unique. They are held underneath and just below waist height, as shown in the pictures.

Bridal Flower Wands

Again, the flower wand is traditionally a choice for the bridesmaid, but look what happens when you take it up a notch for the bride. These gorgeous alternatives to the traditional posy look lovely coupled with an A line dress. Again we have subtle, simple and elegant and these are so easy to hold being more lightweight than the posy and hand tied.

Floral Fan

The floral fan is a good alternative but care should be taken when matching the fan with a bridal gown. They would typically be held in front of the torso so you ideally go for a see through design which doesn’t block the dress. I love the asymmetrical designs we are currently seeing with the fans.

Shaped Bouquets

Hearts are a great shape for a wedding, so why not shape your bridal bouquet into a heart? These can be combined with ornamental wires and beads and showcase your flowers in a unique way. I love this design, it would work perfectly for a summer english garden wedding.

Floral Handbag

What about a floral handbag? There are options for a bridal handbag, you could embellish your own handbag with a floral corsage or you can have a “bag” created with floral materials as pictured. Either way, a handbag would look great, matched with a bridal suit.
