INDIAN SUMMER FLOWERS WORKSHOP
😀 This year I am delighted to post that I will be holding my Indian Summer Flowers Workshop at the spectacular National Trust venue, Souter Lighthouse in Whitburn, Sunderland. This will take place on Saturday 7th September, 2024, 1-3.
Due to its popularity last year I am also taking this workshop to Cowell’s Gardens Centre in Woolsington, Newcastle on Sunday 8th September, 11-1 if this date is better for you. Both workshops are exactly the same and cost £50 per person.
You can click the buttons below to book your places at either venue if this is something you fancy trying 👇
SOUTER LIGHTHOUSE
Souter Lighthouse is well worth a visit in its own right and those spectacular views of our glorious North Eastern coastline are amazing any time of the year. So why not take a bit of time out to check out the Lighthouse, maybe a spot of lunch in the cafe whilst you are there ☕
Our workshops are held in the new Visitors Centre and as you can see from the picture below, this room has the most amazing views and it is such a relaxing environment. It’s just a lovely place to lose yourself for a couple of hours and create.
This venue is also wheelchair accessible and you can park close by for those who have any mobility difficulties. Please message me if you have any concerns around accessibility.
I love National Trust venues, you really feel like you are part of history in these places 💚
COWELL’S GARDEN CENTRE
Cowell’s Garden Centre is a fantastic place for all things horticultural and we run our workshops in the Horti Haven which is poly tunnel especially converted for workshops. It’s a lovely space to create.
THIS WORKSHOP
As the summer starts to fade, let’s keep the colour alive in our homes with our Indian Summer Flowers Workshop. Using these hot, vibrant jewel tones of pink, blue, mustard and green I will demonstrate how you can create a fresh flower arrangement in vases of water using sustainable techniques
These colours glow in the late summer sun and will brighten your homes into the autumn months… and I think these colours create a slightly different take on the traditional autumn palette but still capture the boldness of the season 🎨
I also love the moody look they can create, perfect for when the days grow shorter.
🌏 A LITTLE NOTE ON SUSTAINABILITY
As a florist, I try to keep my work as sustainable as possible and I love exploring, and indeed developing new techniques which help me do this. This workshop will involve us arranging flowers into a chicken wire nest which will sit inside the water filled vase. The nest will support the stems to stay in place. This is a popular alternative to using floral foam, or oasis which is neither a biodegradable or reusable product.
Whilst the arranging technique is slightly different which I will explain fully, the final look is much the same. In fact, I would say it is better as the flowers tend to have more movement when arranged this way. You can also reuse the vase and chicken wire nest if you want to make this design again in the future.
Here’s some pictures from this workshop that we held last year at Crook Hall Gardens…
REASONS TO TRY A FLOWER WORKSHOP WITH US…
This is a great opportunity to learn new skills and develop a new hobby. These are skills for keeps which you can use again and again for yourself and for your friends. Or you can be like me and develop it into a whole new career!
My workshops are a great place to meet new people. I deliberately keep my groups small so I can give everyone my full attention but also because it tends to foster a more friendly and relaxed atmosphere. People chat, after all, your love of flowers is something you all have in common.
Workshops are a great gift idea. Sometimes it’s hard to buy a gift for someone and this can be a real pressure. A Flower Workshop is a gift of time. Time shared together doing something totally different. This is what creates memories, not to mention a fabulous flower arrangement for you both to take home and admire.
Working with flowers feels good. There is good evidence to support the idea that creativity can be therapeutic. Just using your hands and focusing your minds on a creative activity is calming. It’s time out of our chaotic schedules and a way of pressing the pause button on all those demands. It’s time for you, and your friends and we all deserve that.
💍 WEDDING FLOWERS IDEAS
We are seeing more and more people coming to our workshops in order to learn the skills and techniques to do their own wedding flowers and what a good idea this is.
Wedding flowers can be expensive and when you consider the amounts of flowers needed and skilled floristry time to create those fabulous designs, this is totally understandable.
However, if you want to keep costs down, you are happy to do your own flowers and you have plenty of people around to help you, then why not give it a try?
This workshop will give you all you need to know to create an urn/goblet/compote table centre in chicken wire and water. You will learn the techniques, pick up tips and have a grasp of the flower quantities needed. I am also very happy to answer any questions you may have regarding colours and flower choices that you have in mind.
